As a private facility, Valley Park can offer a wider range of guest amenities such as camping, adult beverages when appropriate, and activities specifically designed for our guests. 30 full size sporting pitches allow us to host some of the largest events in the country all at one venue. Our event participants typically come from a twelve state area, making Valley Park an ideal location for regional competitions.
Recent Happenings
As many of our loyal guests are aware, the recent storms last spring caused the closing of two major access routes to the complex. This summer, Highway 20 was re-opened, but Keetonville Road will remain closed, making the commuting time to Valley Park from Tulsa about ten minutes longer. The good news is that construction on a new road coming from both the south and the west will begin in January of 2009 which will double the access to the complex and reduce the commuting time that guests experienced on Keetonville Road.
Additionally, you will notice while driving up Hwy 169 from Tulsa through Owasso, or up Hwy 66 through Claremore that there is a wide variety of new hotels, restaurants and fast food providers to choose from which are much closer to the complex than those usually frequented in Tulsa.
Be sure to check out the “Directions to Valley Park” section on this website to see our current routes and the proposed new route.

Tulsa, OK – Tulsa will be hosting the 1st round of the Ultimate Players Association College Championship series known as Ozark Sectionals here at the exceptional facilities of Valley Park Sports Complex near the Port-of-Catoosa. This is the first time an event of this caliber has ever been hosted in Oklahoma and also the farthest South it can be held. The game play will be highly competitive, fast paced, aggressive and extremely photo/video/press friendly. Please see the attached fact sheet for more basic information on the game of Ultimate itself. The tourney will run from 9:00 am Saturday April 12th until 4:30 pm and from 9:00 am Sunday April 13th until 4:30.
Local Teams Participating - There will be 20 College Men’s teams and 10 College Women’s competing during this two day event. This event will include all participating college teams from Arkansas, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma. This includes local teams from University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, University of Tulsa, Northeastern State University, University of Arkansas and the defending sectional champion University of Kansas.
UPA Championship Series
The UPA Championship Series is the largest and longest running UPA program (in 2004 nearly 80% of the UPA's members competed in the at least one division of the Series). In fact, the UPA was started in 1979 to provide the structure, resources, and communication necessary to run a national championship, which has evolved into the current Championship Series program.
Since the first UPA championship in the Open Division, the Championship Series program has expanded to include 8 divisions in which teams are awarded UPA Championships each year, including High School Open and Girls, College Open and Women, Club Open, Women, and Mixed, and Masters Open. In 2005, with the growth and evolution of the Youth Division, several more championships were added to the Youth Championship program including High School Eastern and Western Championships and the Youth Club Open, Girls, and Mixed Championships.
In the Club and College Divisions the Championship Series is structured with three tiers of competition. The entry level for the Series is Sectionals, where eligible teams register for and compete in their Sectional Championship for the right to advance to the Regional Championship. Teams at the Regional Championships in turn compete to advance to the UPA Championships (aka Nationals). Bids are awarded to Regionals and the UPA Championships based on a system that combines automatic bids with wildcards based on the strength and/or size of sections and regions. The Masters Division works on the same principles, but starts at the Regional level. The Youth Division championships are modified invitational’s with eligibility criteria tied to other UPA Youth state and league level events.
The UPA Championships are the gold standard by which many competitive Ultimate players and teams measure themselves. These tournaments are showcase events which probably attract more attention from within and outside of the Ultimate community than any other. The level of play is the highest in the world, and the spirit of sportsmanship on display under incredible competitive pressure is inspiring and what this sport is all about. The Series offers an environment for Ultimate players throughout the US and Canada to form friendships and rivalries, test themselves physically and mentally, and showcase the sport at its best.
The Championship Series is run by a large staff of volunteer area and division coordinators with support from the Championship Director and other staff at UPA headquarters. Other volunteers essential to the operation of the Series include committee members who specialize in elements of competition such as rules, eligibility, tournament formats, and observers.
The College and Youth Divisions are run in the spring and summer. The Club Divisions are run in the fall. The Club Series is the largest and most competitive series of Ultimate tournaments in the world with over 10,000 participants on 600 teams.

February 28, 2008 - The Katy, Texas, Barbarians captured the championship of the inaugural Green Country High
School Rugby Showdown by defeating the Kansas City Junior Blues, 10-8, in a tough, physical contest.
The tournament was held near Tulsa, Oklahoma on a chilly and damp weekend (February 23 and 24) and
included 14 teams from five different states – Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Kansas, and Colorado.
In the final game, Kansas City scored midway through the first half to take a 5-0 lead. However, Katy answered
on the last play of the half as Curtis Chaffin, one of three Katy players on the USA Rugby U18 National Team, tied
the score with a tremendous run from beyond midfield. Tim O’Donnell was successful on the conversion to give
Katy a 7-5 halftime lead. The second half was as closely contested as the first, with O’Donnell converting a
penalty kick that gave Katy a 10-5 lead. Kansas City followed with a penalty kick of their own to complete the
scoring. Carlos Egacila, Katy’s loosehead prop, led the strong forward play during the championship game and
was named MVP.
To reach the finals, Katy defeated Alliance (Keller, Texas) 31-0 and Bixby (Oklahoma) 24-5. Kansas City defeated
Broken Arrow (Oklahoma) and Union (Oklahoma) in their other contests.
Bixby captured third place with a 20-10 win over Union, while the Gentlemen of Olathe won the bowl
championship.
Other teams in the tournament included Jenks (Ok), Bartlesville (Ok), Brethren (Ok), Dallas Harlequins, St. Regis
Jesuit (Denver), and Heart of America Select Side. |

Believe it or not, Oklahoma is quietly becoming a breeding ground for rugby players, coaches and fans, and the number of participants in high school this year is expected to be at an all time high. Players from Mustang to Bixby to Bartlesville are coming out in numbers to play rugby in 2009, the first year that Oklahoma has had nine different high school teams.
On February 23 and 24, Oklahoma will showcase its emerging rugby talent in the first regional high school tournament being hosted in the Tulsa area. The Tulsa High School Rugby Showdown will be held at Valley Park in Catoosa, and fourteen teams will be participating in the event. Some of the premier teams from Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Texas and Oklahoma will be competing for bragging rights and bruises in an exciting exhibition of high school talent. Defending state champions from Denver (Regis Jesuit), Kansas (KC Junior Blues), Oklahoma (Brethren) and Texas (Alliance) will all be participating, as well as perennial powerhouses Katy, Texas, Dallas Harlequins, St. Louis Druids, and a select side team from the Heart of America Rugby Union. From Oklahoma, teams from Jenks, Union, Broken Arrow, Bartlesville and Bixby will be taking on the regional heavyweights. Referees will be brought in from several states as well, and the tournament has attracted local sponsorship from American Eagle Title Insurance Company, Citizens Security Bank, PMC Homes, Oppenheimer Brothers Foundation, Central States Orthopedics and Red Bull.
